Unearthing Wellbeing // Sally Jane Douglas

July 21, 2021

This week I had the beautiful Sally Jane Douglas on the podcast. She is a Women's Empowerment Mentor and Women's Embodiment Coach with 15 years experience working with and supporting women. I was lucky to cross paths with her through the Body By Finch program. She is so generous with her time, imparting wisdom to women to allow them to be the best selves.

Sally took us on a journey explaining how she began on this journey fresh out of high school and where her dreams took her as well as her learnings. To how a previous relationship cemented who she wanted to support in the health space. Trigger warning for those listening as she briefly explains that said relationship was toxic and she experienced domestic violence. So please be safe and check in with your loved ones or organisations like Life Line or Respect Australia if you need extra help.

She is a busy bee, offering her services through her signature online group programs (EmpowerHER and SHE Collective), Sally compassionately guides women to reconnect with their intuition, step into their power, and unleash a pleasure-filled life of their dreams! She explains the two which are currently available.

Sally’s greatest joy is facilitating women to overcome their fears and doubts and witness them develop self-trust and self-belief to lead their lives with confidence and clarity.

Living her own life heart led, Sally fiercely embodies all she teaches as she supports women to feel deeply, live fearlessly and love wholeheartedly in their own lives too.

We also spoke about what she does to fill her cup including the choice to move up to the Sunny Coast and most recently renting a van to explore.

I’ll stop there, take a listen for yourself! Here is Sally!!

Unearthing Wellbeing // Julie Mathers

Unearthing Wellbeing // Julie Mathers

July 14, 2021

Today we chat with Julie - the founder of Flora & Fauna, an Australian online business who sources and sells ethical, eco-friendly and sustainable products direct to you. Having spent 20+ years working in retail, Julie wanted to create a better business. A business that was conscious of its impact on the world and one that contributes positively to society and drives change for the better. For too long we haven't known enough about how products are produced, what they're made of and who makes them. Retailers have not focused on their own supply chains and the waste produced. Julie set out to change that creating a retailer focused on driving change through Flora & Fauna and also in the industry as a whole.

Julie Mathers is the CEO and Founder of Flora & Fauna. Flora & Fauna is Australia’s largest eco and vegan store; it’s also a platform for purpose being driven by purpose and values.

Julie founded Flora & Fauna 6 years ago with a clear vision to be the most responsible retailer possible with the best customer service.

Flora & Fauna was named Most Sustainable Retailer at the Power Retail 2020 Awards, Best Small Online Retailer at the 2018 ORIAs and won Telstra Small Business of the Year for NSW in 2018. Flora & Fauna is also a proud BCorp. Flora & Fauna is 100% carbon offset, has saved over 30 tonnes of plastic from hitting landfill by shipping orders plastic-free, offers a recycling scheme and has lots of charity partnerships. Which we discussed in detail on the pod.

Julie has a strong personal desire to create change for the better and frequently mentors and speaks about responsible retailing and small business. Julie was named Number 1 in the 2021 and 2019 "Top 50 People in Australian eCommerce" and Business Person of the Year this Year at the 2018 Gala Awards. She is truly a trailblazer and an inspiration for myself and others in the industry,

Prior to founding Flora & Fauna, Julie has worked in the UK, Europe, Asia and now Australia for the last ten years. She has worked in consulting, private equity and with many retailers, including senior leadership roles in Woolworths, Coles and APG & Co.

Unearthing Wellbeing // Dr Dana Cohen

Unearthing Wellbeing // Dr Dana Cohen

July 7, 2021

This week I was lucky to have Doctor Dana Cohen on the podcast. She is a clinician, a doctor, specialising in internal medicine, who has worked side by side with the late Dr. Robert Atkins, a true pioneer in the field of integrative medicine.

She has helped thousands of patients find relief from a variety of health problems utilizing the principles of integrative and functional medicine. She practices with an emphasis on the individual, understanding that no two patients are alike. Her results demonstrate that there is an art to medicine and a way to connect with patients on a level much deeper than what is achieved through mainstream medicine. She focuses on nutrition and limits her patients’ reliance on prescription medications by using diet, lifestyle changes and nutritional supplementation.

This leads me to cases which she discussed that were rapidly improved by a simple staple we all have access to - water. She recently launched her first book “Quench” with coauthor Gina Bria, which has garnered rave reviews and has a cult following of devotees.

Dr Cohen was such a lovely guest to have on, I think everyone will be reminded of the necessity in the simplicity - staying hydrated. She also gave amazing tips on staying hydrated in diverse ways - like making one of her smoothies! You can grab Dr. Cohen’s book and get more information surrounding holistic health and hydration on her website: https://drdanacohen.com

Unearthing Wellbeing // Mason Taylor

June 30, 2021

This week I was delighted to have Founder and Co-CEO of Superfeast; Mason Taylor on the podcast. Why I was so excited to have Mason on was because I have been taking medicinal mushrooms for the past three years, and he was one of the people who has such a plethora of experience in this area.

Mason is a wellness educator, avid sharer & inspirer. Host of the SuperFeast Podcast (as well as The Mason Taylor Show podcast), professional speaker & retreat facilitator, Mason is a passionate tonic herbalist & founder of Australia’s leading adaptogenic medicinal mushroom provider, SuperFeast. Mason is dedicated to teaching people of all walks of life how to embrace & benefit from the healing forces of nature as they create a unique & dynamic health philosophy. Mason’s energy & intent for a long & happy life is infectious. Mason also brings a refreshing & cheeky sense of humour to his talks, podcast & life, because longevity relies on a good belly laugh.

As this podcast is all about learning, discovery and holistic health, and we dig deep into this throughout the pod. I think everyone will enjoy this episode and take something from it. We speak about being our authentic selves and going with the ebbs and flows of life.

Mason and I discussed what ‘medicinal mushrooms’ really are, how tree mushrooms are in fact tonic herbs and adaptogens which have such amazing benefits and I speak about my own personal experiences using them. Not to mention where they are harvested from and how they can help us be at our prime in all sense of the word. They are just so powerful.

We also spoke about the important of optimal mental health and how so many around the world have been severely affected by this over the last year. Following on the importance to see practitioners in the field, albeit the limitations to seeking them on a financial level but also the fact that simple things like getting out in nature are not as readily promoted for our health.

I won’t continue banging on about how crazy amazing this chat with Mason was, I implore you to take a listen yourself.

June 23, 2021

I continue to be blown away by the calibre of amazing guests joining me on this podcast. This week I was honoured to have Steph Prem join me. This Winter Olympian, Pilates Master, motivational speaker, entrepreneur is one of Australia’s leading experts on health and wellness.

We explored how Steph “accepted the rewrite”. Deep diving into the gritty reality of how she’s overcome both extreme lows and highs and come out the other end stronger and more resilient (both mentally and physically).

As the founder of the unique Studio PP Pilates training method she’s been responsible for thousands of transformations.  While her high profile corporate and celebrity clientele reflect Steph’s unique, inspiring and performance driven ethos. She’s a total powerhouse, can you believe she’s lead six thousand classes over the last decade as a Pilates Master and wellbeing coach!   Her total wellbeing approach works to transform your body and your mind while elevating body confidence and igniting your energy.

I know everyone will be inspired by Steph’s journey, she is a legend, in every sense of the word. After speaking with her I felt so inspired and driven to continue my own quest of discovery in holistic health. Her willingness to ask for help will resonate with you all. She reveals why including a therapist in her recovery was a game changer and believes we should be shifting our mindset about the role of therapists and instead view them as coaches. As a counsellor myself, constantly trying to erase the stigma related to people asking for help, this reinforced why Steph’s experience was so important to share on so many levels.

Once you hear this episode you’ll totally understand why Steph is such an in demand motivational speaker and health and wellness expert.

There is no question you will LOVE listening to Steph - and she will leave you wanting more!

After our chat, I was lucky enough to attend one of her Workshops at Willow Urban Retreat. I’m not exaggerating when I say, it was a timely reminder that I needed to regroup, re-evaluate and re-energise. Her approach is both nurturing and invigorating, I left the workshop feeling sore (in a good way) and amazing all at once. If you have the opportunity to try it yourself, definitely check it out.

This week, I had the beautiful Co-founder of my favourite natural Kynd Scent, Emily Ings. Kynd Scent is a natural perfume and skincare company motivated to support women who are striving to live a healthy, low-tox lifestyle.

EPISODE 14

I’m not sure how I got so lucky with this next guest. He has been an actor for all his life. But for me, his most powerful works which resonate with me and which open up a world of Unearthing Wellbeing in all it’s integrity in the journey of discovery are his books and talks.

This next guest is Philip Shepherd who is recognized as a leader in the global embodiment movement. He is the creator of The Embodied Present Process™ (TEPP), which he developed over 40 years of teaching embodiment practices, and shares worldwide in both in workshops and Facilitators Trainings.

TEPP uniquely combines the two resources necessary for embodiment: effective practices, and a deep understanding of our culture’s blind spots, which tend to keep us in our heads. TEPP is based on Philip’s two books – Radical Wholeness and New Self, New World – which articulate the causes, perils and challenges of our culture’s disembodiment.

Philip’s personal journey to embodiment includes cycling alone as a teenager through Europe, the Middle East, Iran, India and Japan; studying classical Japanese Noh Theater; co-founding an interdisciplinary theatre company; and playing lead roles on stages in London, New York, Chicago and Toronto. In the non-Covid world, he travels the world sharing workshops, and running year-long Facilitators Trainings with his co-director and wife Allyson Woodrooffe.

For those like me who had never seen a murmuration of starlings, you will not want to miss this beautiful sight here.

If you would like to find out more about Phillip, his website and online courses are found at EmbodiedPresent.com.

Hello and Welcome to Unearthing Wellbeing with me Ask Elizabeth, Where Our Greatest Wealth Is Health.

This episode I had the honour of speaking to an actress named Sarah Roberts who starred on a show I have been watching since I was able to walk and talk “Home and Away”.

Sarah recently wrapped up filming on long running Australian Drama Home and Away starring role as Willow Harris. Sarah has also starred in the feature films Felony and UnIndian.

Starting her career as a DJ Sarah stepped into the realm of acting in pursuit of new creative challenges. After training at the 16th Street Actors Studio, Sarah guest-starred in a number of Australian television dramas including Jack Irish and INXS: Never Tear Us Apart. After appearing Sienna Matthews in the 2014 Neighbours spin-off series Brennan on the Run.

Sarah was everything I expected her to be and more. She was so nice and down to earth and we had both a giggle and cry together. It was so easy talking to Sarah, it was just like we had known each other for years. Her humility, liveliness and how she wears her heart on sleeve is emphasised.

I cannot wait to share this episode with you all. I think you will too LOL and at times your heart strings will be pulled.
